Why even sell party games printables online?

One easy way to check out the demand for instant download party games is to jump over to Etsy and search for them by holidays and occasions.

Use these searches:

  • Halloween party games
  • Christmas party games
  • New Year’s Eve party games
  • 50th birthday party games

That’ll get you started.

I provide you with a long list of all sorts of holidays and occasions throughout the year to create and sell party games printables.

And besides demand, I find that there are at least 5 factors that increase the probability of converting sales on these instant download games…

Sales Converting Factors for Party Game Download

  1. Speed of delivery: customers gain instant access to their purchase. This becomes especially useful if they shop last second.
  2. Urgency: as the occasion or holiday creeps closer customers run out of time and must make a purchase or miss out.
  3. Affordability: typically these instant download games come out at very low prices
  4. Variety: when sold in bundles party games printables offer an assortment of different types of games to entertain your customers’ guests.
  5. Design: not only will your customers laugh and have a good time with the games themselves but they can buy them with designs customized to the occasion or holiday.

Need Data? The Stats Behind the Trending Sales of Party Games Printables

According to a report published by Statista in 2020, the global market size of printable party games and activities was valued at 376 million U.S. dollars in 2019 and is expected to reach 549 million U.S. dollars by 2024.

This indicates that the demand for party games printables is on the rise, with an increasing number of people looking for creative and affordable ways to entertain their guests at parties and events.

As for a resource, Etsy is a popular online marketplace where many independent sellers offer a wide variety of party games printables. And this where I currently am selling my games.

PROs vs CONs of Selling Printable Party Games

Just like any digital product that you can sell on Etsy or on your own shop, there are good and not-so-good points.

  • Party games printables are a low-cost, high-profit product
  • Sell them worldwide without shipping costs
  • Offer a passive income stream once created
  • Easily customizable and personalized for different events
  • Bundle them to increase the sale price and profit

  • A lot of competition in the market
  • Creating high-quality designs can be time-consuming without much experience
  • It can be difficult to stand out among other sellers
  • Printables are vulnerable to piracy and copyright infringement.

Let’s touch base on a few of these negative points.

Yes, there is a lot of competition and it can get difficult to stand out, but you can combat this with the following tactics:

  • Niche Down: don’t just stay generic and create a bundle of Christmas Party Games. Instead, create a bundle of interactive games that require people to mingle, or for parties just for adults create more adult-oriented themes. Or create Office Party Christmas games or Friendsgiving-labeled games for groups of friends instead of just Thanksgiving for family.
  • Design: if you just slap on typical pumpkins or fall leaves to Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving games, they might get overlooked. Instead, design multi-colored pumpkins for female-attended Friendsgiving games or all watercolor-designed gnomes.
  • Multiple Listings: the main tactic I use for ALL designs for Templaticity is to start with ONE template and then make alterations. So, in this case, if you sell on Etsy or another online marketplace where your competition’s listings sit right next to yours, then make many listings. Duplicate the listing swap out the cover image and keep everything else the same.

Tools to Create Printable Party Games

You do NOT need to be a graphic designer or artist to create your own party games printables to sell online.

Just develop an eye for good design and use an online graphic design tool like Canva.

Canva is my go-to tool that I’ve used for years and I’ve become quite good and very fast at using it.

It includes royalty-free-to-use images, graphics, text fonts and offers a way to design in different sizes based on your needs such as resumes, social media posts, ebooks, flyers, blog post banners, etc.

Check out the blog post of my favorite Canva tips and tricks to high-quality design and lightening-fast work.

Tools to Research Which to Choose to Sell

You’ll get different opinions on this throughout the web.

The main two tools I currently use are Marmalead and the Etsy marketplace itself.

Marmalead is an SEO tool designed specifically for Etsy to help you find the best keywords and keyword phrases, and tags to use in your Etsy listings.

There are other good tools out there I sometimes use such as Etsy Hunt and Alura. These give you insight into the hottest-selling items on Etsy. They even find some of the best listings for each category of product so you can see the tags and keywords those shop owners used.

The List of Party Games Printables by Name and Description

Looking for party games printables ideas. Here is a list of several games sold on Etsy you can create.

[The next section lists the different holidays and occasions for your party theme.]

Bingo is a classic game of chance where players match numbers on their card to those called out by a host. It’s a simple yet entertaining game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Find the Guest Bingo is a great mingling game where each guest receives a bingo card. Instead, of typical numbers on the card, the guests will find descriptions of that require them to interact with the other guests in order to search for the person who fits the description such as who has been married for more than 10 years or whose favorite color is purple. The descriptions can match the holiday or occasion such as who’s not afraid of spiders (Halloween theme) or who has ever kissed under the mistle toe (Christmas theme)

What’s On My Phone? is a game where players receive a game card that contains typically four different checklists of different items to find on their phone. Each checklist denotes different values for its items. The less-likely items you’d expect to find on someone’s phone receive more points.

Memory Game is a game where players are given a set of cards and they have to match pairs by remembering where each card is located. It’s a great game for developing memory skills and concentration. You can even create a version where a set of matching descriptions is dispersed among the guests and they must mingle to find their match. Of course, this can be themed to the party. For example, one card could be a mistle toe and the other of people kissing.

Matching Game is a game where players have to match pairs of cards with the same image or word. It’s a fun game for all ages and can be played alone or with others.

Another version is great for bridal or baby showers where each guest receives a list of questions to guess who fits the description (Bride or Groom; Mommy or Daddy).

Most Likely To is a game where players take turns asking who is most likely to do certain things and the other players have to vote on who they think is most likely. It’s a fun game for parties and can reveal a lot about each player’s personality.

This or That is a game where players are given two options and have to choose which one they prefer. It’s a great game for getting to know each other better and can be played with a large group of people.

People search online especially Etsy for the following party games to download and print.

What's Niching Down? How to Create Unique Product Versions

As I mentioned previously in this blog post, you will find that there can be a lot of competition for selling printable party games, depending on the holiday or occasion.

That’s why it makes sense to find subcategories of either the party, theme, or specific designs in which to create a party games bundle.

For example, instead of making Valentine’s Day party games, you could instead do Galentines party games specifically designed for groups of female friends.

Or as I mentioned earlier instead of Thanksgiving party games, you could do Friendsgiving party games designed for groups of friends, who come together to celebrate the holiday.

As for designs think in terms of the party theme. Research or look at what recurring design themes pop up in other peoples games and then create a bundle specifically just of one design theme.

For example for a Super Bowl party full of fans for the same team, you could create designs of iconic landmarks of their town, either well-known or not as well-known.

The obvious choice would be to choose the logo and colors of a team, but be wary of trademark infringement. Perhaps you could do the colors, but you certainly would not be able to sell printable games with a San Francisco 49ers helmet, for example without getting in trouble.

Another idea could be for a family reunion you could create editable templates where your customer could insert their own pictures or you could do it for them.

And yet for another theme, let’s say a Christmas party, you could create multicolored Christmas trees instead of a standard green Christmas tree or other Christmas elements.

The concept here is to think of a main category and then look for subcategories of it.

Tips to Convert Sales or Upselling

Given the challenges of making money online, especially when considering all the choices, a customer has in online marketplaces such as Etsy or even just online in general, you’ll want to find an edge that will help you convert more sales and even make more money with upsells.

Let’s look at a list:

  1. Scarcity: instead of listing and infinite supply create an urgency to purchase by limiting the supply, or at least creating an apparent limit of supply. Never let your supply be higher than 10. On Etsy will appear as an item running out of supply in red type face, which of course will get the attention of viewers.
  2. Multiple listings: I mentioned this earlier, but I’ll bring it up again. Give yourself many chances to be found on marketplaces, such as Etsy. That’s why you want to create multiple listings of the same products. All you simply do is duplicate the first listing and change out the cover image.
  3. Daily sales: instead of creating a sale the last month re-create the sale every day to make it look like they’re running out of time.
  4. Bonuses: offer free gifts included in the listing that complement your games. This could be party invitations, greeting cards, or even funny wall art that your customers’ guests will see.
  5. Upsells: offer limited time discounts for larger bundles. You can include an image promoting this on the listing images and links to it in the listing description.
  6. Coupon Codes for email list sign-up: the only way to make large sums of sales is with repeat customers and the best repeat. Customers will be part of an email list in which you promote your newest listings and offer discounts to your VIPs.
  7. Coupon codes for multiple item purchases: induce your potential customers to make larger some purchases by offering deep discounts if they buy three or more items at once, as an example.
  8. Discounts for repeat customers: when someone buy something on Etsy from you, message them right away, offering your assistance and also a discount to make another purchase.
  9. Discounts for favorite items: again, if someone favorites an item of yours on Etsy message them with an offer for one free sample and a discount of the listing.
  10. Message customers who left reviews on your competitors products: you can message customers of your competitors on Etsy, offering them a bonus, free gift, and a discount for purchasing something so much yours.

Summary About Selling Printable Party Games

Party games printables are easy to make, and easy to repurpose, and they’re highly sought after on Etsy and other online shops.

There’s a sense of urgency to buy them for holiday-themed parties since there’s a limited time to do so, and they’re very inexpensive to create and once you get good at it, you can work fast.

Start making money in your sleep or while you’re doing other things.

It’s not always easy to find the designs that people want, but luckily for you, you can simply swap out designs and create a whole new listing of party game bundles.
